Super Bowl disaster…

As most everyone in America knows, Iowa’s beloved Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals came up just short in the Super Bowl. I’m not sure if Kurt will make it into the NFL Hall of Fame, but he’s certainly my favorite active player. Growing up I had the chance to listen to him on the radio lead UNI Panthers through the playoffs, watch him at old Vet’s Auditorium carry his Arena League Iowa Barnstormers to a championship, then resurrect his career with the Rams in an MVP season. So sad to see his season end in heartbreak, but hopefully he’ll get one more shot next year!

On a way more serious note, my Super Bowl Sunday turned into a little bit of a disaster. Cru here at KU has a long standing tradition of putting together a giant tackle football game in the afternoon, and then a huge watch party for the game. I love the chance to spend time rubbing shoulders with our guys, so of course I joined in. Half way through the game, I was tackling and bringing down the ball carrier when my teammate Adam came to help finish off the play. Unfortunately for me, he’s a huge dude and on the Rugby team here at KU. I ended up at the bottom of the pile with my face getting planted into the frozen dirt turf. As you can see from the pics below, my face didn’t turn out so hot! No major damage, I was able to get back up and finish the game. The saving part of the story is that the very next play I made a tackle and stopped a trick reverse play that saved a touchdown. After I went home my adrenaline wore off, and I was in significantly more pain, and Katie was very surprised to see my face. I am happy to report that my recovery is going very well.
